Dental Insurance and Out-of-Network Benefits

Dental Insurance and Out-of-Network Benefits
You may be able to use dental insurance even when your dentist is out of network. Many PPO plans provide out-of-network benefits, but your coverage and share of the cost depend on your specific plan.
Our team helps you understand available benefit information and estimated costs so you can make informed decisions about your care. Call (757) 424 0184 with your insurance details to get started.

What out of network means
An out-of-network dentist does not participate in a particular insurer’s network contract and sets fees independently. PPO and indemnity plans may reimburse covered care outside the network. HMO, DHMO, and EPO-style plans may offer little or no out-of-network coverage except in limited circumstances.

Why covered at 100 percent may still leave a balance
A plan may pay 100% of its allowed amount, which can be lower than the dentist’s fee. For example, if a cleaning costs $100 and the plan pays its full allowed amount of $75, your remaining balance is $25. This example assumes no deductible or other limitation applies.

How our team helps

  • Review your insurance information and help verify available benefits when possible
  • Explain the practice fee and estimated insurance payment
  • Submit claims and supporting information when applicable
  • Help you understand an Explanation of Benefits, or EOB
  • Discuss your estimated balance and available payment options

Benefit verification and pre-treatment estimates are not guarantees of payment. Your insurer determines the final benefit after processing the claim. You remain responsible for charges your plan does not pay.

Questions to ask your insurer

  • Does my plan cover care from this out-of-network dentist?
  • What deductible and annual maximum remain?
  • How are preventive, basic, and major services reimbursed outside the network?
  • Are there waiting periods, frequency limits, missing-tooth clauses, or alternate-benefit rules?
  • Will reimbursement go to me or the dental office?
  • Should I request a pre-treatment estimate?

Care that fits your needs
Insurance can help with costs, but it does not determine which treatment is right for you. We explain recommended care, reasonable alternatives, and fees. Ask us about priorities or the consequences of delaying treatment so you can make a decision you understand.

Frequently asked questions

Can you tell me exactly what my insurance will pay?
We can estimate benefits using the information available. Only your insurer can determine the final payment after the claim is processed.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Many dental treatment expenses may qualify. Confirm eligibility with your account administrator, especially for cosmetic services or membership fees.

What if I do not have insurance?
Ask about the Reitano Dentistry Dental Savings Plan for uninsured patients. It includes listed preventive services and discounts on eligible treatment. It is not insurance and cannot be combined with insurance benefits or other offers.
